The choice of an inscription (a combination of letters, numbers) to a large extent depends on the needs of the applicant. However, the license plate cannot bear vulgar, jargon words, swear words, also the concepts that are offensive in respect of the representatives of other races and religions. The inscription cannot coincide with the names of states, international organisations or their abbreviations.

The surface of the vehicle registration number license plate is white, light reflective and with a repetitive safety mark. There is a blue strip on its left edge, and the edging, letters and numbers of the vehicle registration number license plate are black. There is a character of the European Union (EU) and a white distinguishing mark of the Republic of Lithuania “LT” in the blue strip of the vehicle registration number license plate. In the state license plates of the first format, the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania - Vytis is displayed between the blue band and the letters. In the license plates of the second, third and fifth formats, the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania - Vytis is depicted above the symbol of the European Union (EU) on the blue band and the white distinguishing mark of the Republic of Lithuania "LT".
