According to the data of the State Enterprise Regitra, the fleet of M1 class cars on the road in Lithuania during the first six months this year increased by 17 178 cars (1.56 percent) up to 1 115 032.
The number of cars on the road (registered and having passed mandatory MOT) during the first six months of the year increased in all municipalities of the country. The most significant increase was demonstrated by the fleet of the municipalities of Šalčininkai District (3.5 percent), Trakai District (3.2 percent), Švenčionys District (2.5 percent), and Marijampolė (2.3 percent).
The fleet of cars on the road in Vilnius City Municipality during the first six months of the year increased by 1.6 percent (up to 222 509 cars), in Kaunas City – by 1.9 percent (up to 118 344 cars), in Klaipėda City – by 1.3 percent (up to 54 610 cars), in Šiauliai City – by 1.7 percent (up to 37 754 cars), in Panevėžys City – by 1.2 percent (up to 37 025 cars).
According to the data of 1 July, half (540 872) of registered cars on the road used gasoline. From all vehicles with the fuel system fitted for gasoline, 113 025 vehicles used gas, 903 – electricity, 52 – ethanol as an alternative source of fuel. There were also 8 cars, using electric power only, operated in the country.
According to the data of 1 July, 834 213 Lithuanian residents were the owners of cars on the road. Most of them (81.4 percent) have registered one car each in their name, 16 percent – two each, 2 percent – three each. Most of the vehicles were registered in the name of three persons, residing in Marijampolė and Kaunas City Municipality (respectively 875, 612, and 295).
Regitra hereby reminds that the Law on Road Traffic Safety of the Republic of Lithuania obliges the owners and users of vehicles to care about the vehicles that belong to them by the title of ownership or otherwise. Vehicles, registered in an appropriate manner, are allowed to participate in public traffic, whereas a vehicle, which is no longer operated or sold abroad, must be unregistered in an appropriate manner.
