Prolonged issuance of driving licences by mid-September

State Enterprise Regitra informs that due to faults in the driving licence issuance system driving licences will be issued within a longer than usual period: licence issuance may take about a month.

Difficulties in the driving licence issuance system appeared due to the shortage of polycarbonate driving licence forms of the model set out by the European Union (EU), in which the holder’s data are engraved by laser.

By mid-September exceptions will apply only to the replacement of driving licences for drivers who carry passengers or freight abroad, with reference to code 95. These licences will be issued within 10 working days, by way of exception, using the reserve of driving licence forms.

Regitra has already completed all necessary public procurement procedures and signed a contract on the production of new forms with the successful tenderer, UAB Garsų Pasaulis.

The start of delivery of the forms of new EU model driving licences is scheduled for the beginning of September 2013. Consequently Regitra will issue driving licences as usual, within 10 working days as of the date of submission of the application.

Individuals waiting for the new licence to be issued will have the opportunity to check the progress of issuance online. This free information will be available on the website of Regitra at www.regitra.lt, under E-Services (“Information about the ready driving licence”).
