Test evaluation

Praktikos vairavimo egzaminas – automobilyje sėdi moteris, kuri laiko egzaminą ir egzaminuotojas, egzaminuotojas rodo maršrutą navigacijoje
Types of possible errors

The errors listed below can be captured during the practical test:

  • non-critical (NC) – an action which demonstrates an insufficient level of skills on the part of the examinee, but the examinee alone does not pose a threat to any road user and does not interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle, that is, does not create a potentially dangerous situation;
  • specific recurrent (SR) – these are six non-critical errors in performing the same action being evaluated;
  • critical (C) – an action which demonstrates inappropriate level of skills and abilities of the examinee, or disrespect and/or negligence in respect of other road users. The examinee may also pose or poses threat to any road user, may interfere or interferes with the safe operation of the vehicle, that is, creates a potentially dangerous situation.

For the test to be passed, a maximum of 8 non-critical errors can be made and no critical and no specific recurrent errors can be made.

Evaluation criteria

Examiners evaluate the skills of a future driver based on standardized evaluation criteria

Advanced driver assistance systems

Today, some cars of “Regitra”, which are intended for examination of future drivers, are already equipped with certain advanced driver assistance systems. For example, rear parking sensors, Stop & Go system, hill start assistance system, etc.

Before the test, the examiner makes the future driver familiar with specificities of the car and with the safety systems that are available in it.

NOTE. The examinee can decide for himself whether he wants to use the assistance systems during the test. So, depending on the choice of the examinee, during the test, the systems can be turned on or off.

It is important to note that for the future driver, these systems only work as additional aids. Therefore:

  • the purpose and evaluation of the test remain the same;
  • the same requirements continue to apply to the future driver: he must have all the necessary skills which would allow him to drive on the public roads safely and independently;
  • during the test, the examinee must demonstrate not only the ability to operate the vehicle, but also how he manages to assess possible threats on the road, what necessary decisions he makes.

Thus, regardless of the systems used in the car, during the test, the examinee must continue to use the mirrors, watch around and take other precautions, which will allow him to make sure that the manoeuvres that he performs do not endanger those around him.

What safety systems are used in the new cars of “Regitra”?

The cars used for the test are equipped with the following main assistance systems:

  • Rear Parking Sensors. They help avoid a collision when reversing. Using this system, the driver must demonstrate all observation and watching around skills, that is, turn back, look over his shoulder, watch the reflection of the view in the mirrors. The driver must not rely solely on the rear parking sensors and must not use them as the primary source of information.
  • Lane Keeping System. Helps to drive within the lane and even in the middle of it. It also turns the steering wheel if necessary. As in the absence of such a safety system, the examiner observes and evaluates the ability to maintain a stable trajectory within the lane.
  • Collision avoidance system. This system is designed to detect and monitor, with the help of a camera, the car that is running ahead in order to warn the driver of an imminent collision and to brake, if necessary. The ability of the examinee to choose a safe distance based on thw driving speed is evaluated in the same way as in the absence of this system.
  • Hill start assistance system. This system holds the car for a few seconds until the driver moves his foot from the brake pedal to the speed pedal.

Independent driving task (driving according to navigation)

Navigacijos ekranas su egzamino maršrutu ir rodančia ranka

From 1 November 2021, a new task of independent driving – driving according to navigation – will be introduced to category B practice test.

Purpose of the task

This innovation aims to ensuring that, after passing the test, the future driver would feel more confident in his abilities and be as prepared as possible for real situations on the road: would learn to distribute his attention correctly and plan a trip on his own, without the training instructor or examiner.

What are the essential things that have to be known?
  • The independent driving task will last from 10 to 15 minutes, by maintaining the overall duration of the test similar to what has been the case so far.
  • The task will start not earlier than 10 minutes after starting to drive on the public road.
  • Before the start of the task, the examiner will enter the destination into the navigation device.
  • During the task, the examiner may also ask the examinee to perform a special driving manoeuvre (for example, to park the car in a certain way, to turn around in a limited area, etc.), if there is a place on the way that is suitable for this purpose.
Evaluation

After the addition of the new task, the practical test evaluation system remains the same. As during the entire test, the examinee must observe the environment, the behaviour of other road users, and abide by the Road traffic rules.

It is also important to know that in the event that, during the test, the driver will inadvertently not turn where needed or take a route other than that indicated by the navigation device, this is not considered a mistake and will not affect the final result of the test. In such cases, the driver should not get confused and follow the traffic signs until the navigation device will recalculate the route.

Information for people with mobility disabilities

If you want to obtain the right to drive a certain category of vehicle, you can take the exam in a vehicle adapted to your physical disability. Additional pedals must also be installed for the examiner.

The vehicle must be provided by the examiner himself.

When can future drivers learn to drive with their family members?

Vairavimo egzaminas automobilyje, egzaminuotojas ranka rodo kryptį

Those who are seeking to obtain a driving license entitling the holder to drive category B vehicles are advised to further develop their driving skills with their family members. This will help them feel more confident in themselves on the day of taking the test and achieve the desired results.

When can future drivers learn to drive with their family members?
  • If you have already passed the theory test at the “Regitra”.
  • If you are at least 17 years old.
Who can train?
  • Only family members (parents, spouses, children and adopted children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren).
  • The family member must have at least 5 years of experience in driving category B vehicles.
  • The family member, who has been deprived of the right to drive vehicles for the violations of the Road traffic rules cannot train to drive.
Which car can be used for training to drive?
  • A car of category B, which must be registered, the period of validity of roadworthiness test for the vehicle must not be expired, and a valid compulsory insurance policy must be issued for the car (when training the family member, it is recommended to find out more about the insurance terms).
  • The front and rear of the vehicle must be marked with clearly visible distinguishing signs ‘T’, as required by the Road traffic rules.
  • It is not possible to use cars with the parking brake control lever installed in the place other than between the driver’s and passenger’s seats.
Which documents the trainee must have?
  • Personal identity document.
  • Certificate from “Regitra” attesting to the fact that the theory test has been passed.
  • Valid driver‘s medical certificate (electronic certificate is available from printing out HERE).
Which documents the family member must have?
  • Personal identity document.
  • Documents indicating that the family driving instructor and the trainee are family members (for example, marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.).
Other important information
  • Persons who have been deprived of the right to drive vehicles for the violations of the Road traffic rules cannot train additionally with their family member.
  • The trainee is allowed to be trained to drive no more than 3 hours a day.
  • The family driving instructor is responsible for compliance, during the training, with the Road traffic rules and with the requirements for training family members.
