The registration of cars, imported in the country, is 19.9 percent less

According to the generalized data of the State Enterprise Regitra, 97 013 M1 class cars, imported in the country, were registered in Lithuania during the first six months of this year, i.e. 19.9 percent less than during the same period in 2011.

From all cars, registered in the country for the first time, 6 012 were brand new and 91 001 – used (previously registered in foreign countries).

Most (67 394) of imported used vehicles in Lithuania were registered under permanent registration – with the base in the Republic of Lithuania. The most popular models were Volkswagen Passat (5 156 cars), Volkswagen Golf (3 188 cars), Opel Astra (2 331 cars), Audi A6 (2 261 cars), and Opel Zafira (2 096 cars).

Regitra would like to remind the residents, who acquire used vehicles that have never been registered in Lithuania, that where registering an acquired vehicle it is necessary to furnish with the documents of acquisition thereof and process the transaction of purchase and sale in writing (contract), by indicating actual details of the vehicle and the seller.

The company points out that in Lithuania vehicles are not registered, if during the course of verification of identification thereof it is identified or suspected that the identification details conflict with the details, indicated in the documents of the vehicle, the documents are damage or contain the attributes of falsification, also if the documents of registration or acquisition of the vehicle contain the indications of emendation or forgery. The vehicles are also not registered, when they are sought by the police. During the first six months of this year 155 used cars, imported to the country, were refused for registration due to search or suspicion about the vehicle or falsification of documents.

According to the data of Regitra, used vehicles, imported in Lithuania this year and registered under permanent registration – with the base in the Republic of Lithuania, were 10.7 years old on an average; most of them were imported from Germany (45 percent), France (15.4 percent), and Italy (11.7 percent).
