According to the data of the State Enterprise “Regitra” last year 216 603 motor vehicles (Class M1) imported to Lithuania were registered in the country, the great majority of them (204 309, or 94%) comprised used motor vehicles earlier already registered in foreign countries.
Germany remained the main country of export of used motor vehicles. Last year the major part (39%) of used motor vehicles registered in Lithuania were imported from Germany (in 2010 – 38%). France was in the second (15%), Italy – in the third (13%) and Belgium – in the fourth (9%) place according to this indicator.
The average age of used motor vehicles registered in Lithuania last year was 10.4 years.
Compared with 2010 the number of used motor vehicles registered last year increased by one third (32.9%). The bigger part (70%) of these motor vehicles was registered by residents of Lithuania (natural persons).
The quantitative growth of registration of new motor vehicles was even greater and reached 64.7%. The institutions and organisations were the most frequent buyers of new motor vehicles. Last year 88% of all new motor vehicles were registered in their name.
Motor vehicles with diesel engines are becoming increasingly more popular among buyers. The majority (71%) of used motor vehicles and 64% of new motor vehicles registered in Lithuania last year were with diesel engines.
For the purpose of preventing the legalisation of counterfeit motor vehicles or motor vehicles being searched by the police last year “Regitra” refused to register 707 motor vehicles.
