Disallowed registrations of motor vehicles in April are by 33% higher than in March
In April, units of State Enterprise REGITRA disallowed registration of 57 motor vehicles due to vehicle or its documents being declared on search and on suspicion of altered vehicle identification numbers or falsified documents. This is by 33% more compared to March.
33 motor vehicles were not registered because of the vehicles or their license plate numbers had been declared searched. 24 registrations were disallowed on suspicion of altered vehicle identification or engine number, false registration documents or falsified entries in the documents.
In April, total registered used motor vehicles imported to Lithuania from abroad amounted to 16,644 and new motor vehicles – to 1,305. Motor vehicles registered within the same period last year amounted to 15,163 and 1,671 respectively.
Staff members of State Enterprise REGITRA warn that buyers of used motor vehicles, who sign vehicle acquisition documents produced by unknown intermediaries, take a risk of acquiring a stolen or falsified motor vehicle and loosing money paid to the intermediary.
Before buying a motor vehicle which is imported to Lithuania from abroad and has no prior registration in Lithuania, the buyer should be satisfied that the seller is able to produce the documents of prior (last) registration of the vehicle and that such documents meet the last status of the motor vehicle in a relevant country. The above-mentioned documents are necessary for subsequent re-registration of the motor vehicle.
Examples of foreign registration documents are published on Regitra’s website.
