A Christmas charity campaign by the staff of State Enterprise Regitra in support of blind children

In order to contribute to the better social integration of disabled children, employees of State Enterprise Regitra distributed charity funds to blind children during the enterprise’s pre-Christmas charity campaign “There’s No Limit to Kindness”.

The funds given by the employees as charity are intended to publishing of the book “Grįžimo istorija” (The Story of Return) by Gendrutis Morkūnas and transferred for this purpose to the Lithuanian Training Centre of the Blind and Visually Impaired (LASUC). The Story of Return has been recognised as the best book for children and young adults in 2007 and given the award of the Lithuanian Section of the International Board on Books for Young People.

According to Director of LASUC Angelė Daujotienė, publishing a book in the Braille script costs several thousand litas, and it is therefore a bad need for Lithuanian books for children published in the Braille script.

Data of the Lithuanian Training Centre of the Blind and Visually Impaired suggest that there are 519 blind and visually impaired children in Lithuania.

Regitra’s staff members hope that, by providing such children with more training and education opportunities, they will help not only the children but also their families encountering serious difficulties in getting their children ready for independent living in the best way possible.
