Technical requirements of the state number plates currently issued in Lithuania are determined by the Lithuanian Standard LST 1447 “The State Number Plates of Road Vehicles. Technical Requirements”. Technical requirements of the number plates of the 4th 1st size are temporarily (till the respective amendments of the Standart come into force) are defined by the Director General of REGITRA.

It is specified in this standard that number plates are of six types:

  • Four types of termless validity;
  • Two temporary types.

Number plates may be of 4 different sizes: 

  • Dimensions – 520 mm x 110 mm
    (used for automobiles, trailers and semitrailers);
  • Dimensions – 300 mm x 150 mm
    (used for automobiles, trailers and semitrailers in those cases when there are no possibilities to affix to vehicles the number plates of the 1st size without their deformations);
  • Dimensions – 230 mm x 150 mm
    (used for motorcycles).
  • Dimensions - 145 mm x 120 mm
    (used for mopeds as well as for motorcycles in those cases when there are no possibilities to affix to motorcycles number plates of the 3rd size without their deformations).

The set of number plates for automobiles consists of two plates, for trailers and semitrailers – one plate, and for mopeds and motorcycles – one or two plates. Depending on the dimensions of the intended space on the vehicle, the number plates for this vehicle may be of different sizes.

Number plates of termless validity have two round edgings imprinted. They mark the spaces for sticking the hologram and the sign of the state technical inspection.
