Vehicles removed from the register will be automatically returned to public road traffic

It is now simpler and more convenient to return vehicles which have been de-registered to public road traffic. State Enterprise Regitra informs that vehicles which were de-registered before 14 November 2014 due to unfulfilled obligations under the law* will be registered automatically after these obligations are fulfilled and no applications have to be submitted to Regitra regarding renewal of registration.
Vehicles will be returned to public road traffic after their mandatory technical inspection is carried out and they are covered with compulsory motor third party liability insurance. Owners of seasonal vehicles do not have to take care of this issue right now, because a decision regarding renewal of registration can be taken until 12 May 2015 inclusive, within 180 days from coming into effect of the law**.
Individuals may check vehicle registration status having logged in to the Regitra e-services portal, on the website regitra.lt (“Check of vehicle registration”), or having called to the infoline: +370 700 55151, +370 5 210 5164. Callers will be asked to provide vehicle registration number and registration certificate number.
Registration will be renewed automatically only if the owner of a vehicle which has been de-registered  or other registration data do not change. If a vehicle which has been de-registered  has already been sold to another person or other registration data have changed, Regitra has to be contacted regarding renewal of registration.
A simplified and more convenient procedure for the return of vehicles to public road traffic has been established by Order No. 1V-839 of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania of 8 December 2014 amending Order No. 260 of the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania of 25 May 2001 on the Approval of the Rules on Registration of Motor Vehicles and Their Trailers.
The order also emphasises that the period of 180 days for carrying out a technical inspection of a vehicle and covering it with compulsory insurance with regard to vehicles the authorisation of which to participate in road traffic was suspended before 14 November 2014 is calculated as of the date of coming into effect of the law**, i.e. as of 14 November 2014.
