Important for delinquent novice drivers

State Enterprise Regitra would like to remind that in case of failure to complete additional course in time, delinquent novice drivers may be deprived from the right to drive.

It is established in the clauses of the Law on Road Traffic Safety of the Republic of Lithuania that novice drivers will be issued a driving licence of 2 years validity term, which they can later exchange into a driving licence with 10 years validity term without completing any additional driving courses, provided in the period of 2 years they have not breached any requirement (requirements) of the Road Traffic Regulations, for which additional driving training is stipulated in the above-mentioned law, and have not caused any traffic accident resulting in impairment of health of any traffic participant.

If a novice driver breaches a requirement (requirements) of the Road Traffic Rules, for which additional driving training is stipulated in the latter law, such driver must complete the additional driving training course within one year from the date of the offence.

In case of failure to complete the additional driving training course within the established term, the novice driver will loose the right to drive a vehicle and his/her driving licence of 2 years validity will not be exchanged into a driving licence with 10 years validity. In such event the novice driver in order to have his/her right to drive a vehicle restored must pass a driving examination and will be issued a driving licence of 2 years validity, which later will have to be exchanged into a driving licence of 10 years validity term following the procedure established by the law.

The procedure of additional driving training was established by the State Road Transport Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. More...
