Authorization to participate in road traffic has been suspended for 913 thousand vehicles

Following the entry into force of the Law on Road Traffic Safety of the Republic of Lithuania, public enterprise Regitra (hereinafter referred to as Regitra) has started suspending authorization to participate in road traffic for vehicles (hereinafter referred to as the authorization) from 1 July 2014.

Authorizations have been already suspended for the vehicles with the mandatory technical inspection validity expired before 1 July 2014, for 913 thousand vehicles in total.

Validity of authorization can be checked on the website regitra.lt of Regitra, in the electronic services portal or in the section Search in the Vehicles Register.

It should be noted that no individual notices will be sent to the holders of vehicles regarding the suspension of the permits.

According to the Law, reasons that caused the suspension of the authorization must be eliminated within 90 days. If the reasons are not eliminated within the above-mentioned period, the authorization will be cancelled, while the vehicle will be removed from the register. Number plates will be declared invalid and will have to be returned to Regitra. Vehicles will be prohibited to participate in road traffic until they are re-entered into the register following the procedure established in the Rules on Registration of Motor Vehicles and their Trailers approved by the order of the Minister of the Interior.

Removal from the register can be avoided if the holder of the vehicle submits an application for suspension of authorization for the period of maximum one year before the expiry of the above-mentioned 90 days term.
